Horizons is made up of a group of people from St Paul's congregation who meet every few months to allocate some of the church money for appropriate charities.
It was founded in the 1980s but was reinvigorated by Rev John Reese in 1997, who provided Marie Prout (at the time Church Warden) with names of six people who might be interested in continuing Horizons; hence the group was re-established.
Later when Rev Nick Armstrong was vicar, he felt that the sum allocated should be 10% of church income - a tithe. The giving of a tithe is still in place and the current group of people meet to discuss how best to respond financially as crisis arise across the world as well as supporting local and national charities.
The group also facilitates collections for Water Aid, Christian Aid, and CMS box collection annually. The group welcomes ideas from the congregation and keeps the congregation informed of donations on a monthly basis.
